I am sickened to the stomach by the revelation in the Yorkshire Post that our Labour Mayor has not once asked for regional funding of our regional airport. Not once since this all blew up in July 2022. Not once! Apparently she doesn’t want it! She is either completely useless or completely negligent. She has to go.
This is an extract from the article which is out today. I have put screenshots of the article which is not on social media yet in the pics below.
“…. a spokesperson for the mayoral combined authority said Doncaster Council had proposed using its share towards the project and did not want other parts of South Yorkshire to contribute.”
“The spokesperson said: "City of Doncaster Council have proposed to use their allocation to support investment into the South Yorkshire Airport City project, as Doncaster's priority aspiration.”
"CDC have been clear throughout the process that they would not request that other local areas displace their local priorities to support this project."
There is a huge pot of government money held in Sheffield to be used for the benefit of the region. It’s called Gainshare. This is an outrageous betrayal of the airport and of Doncaster by the Mayor.
The Council’s auditors have expressed serious concerns at its ability to fund the airport. Many projects will be shelved because she hasn’t even tried to secure funding from SYMCA. The airport is a regional asset and South Yorkshire should fund it in the same way that #SheffieldsSupertrams are funded. She has jeopardised the airport’s future by her failure to fight for the airport. It is a gross dereliction of duty.
This comes on the same day that Doncaster City Centre is shown in the Daily Mail as being “Britain's number two crime hotspot”. She has failed us all. People are not safe. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/.../most-dangerous-streets...
Ros Jones has put her beloved Labour Party above the interests of Doncaster folk. We are all the worse for it. She must stand down. She must go. If she has any shred of integrity she would resign now.
